Kingan Farms

AgriScot Scotch Beef Farm of the Year 2019

Kingan Farms is a family run partnership spread over 4 different farms and 1180 acres, producer of quality Scottish beef and supplier of biomass wood chip.

We take great pride in producing top quality scotch beef in a sustainable and ethical manner, and are pleased to have been awarded as a Gold Star Aberdeen Angus producer for the Co-op. Our cattle are mainly sourced directly from farms within the southwest and Scottish Borders. The remainder are purchased through Castle Douglas, Lockerbie and Islay cattle markets.

Beef finishing

We buy 1400 steers each year, with approximately 70% coming from local farms, and work closely with these farms to ensure the cattle supplied can be finished to the requirements of our contracts. This includes a mixture of both continental and native breeds.

Embracing modern technology

It is very important for us to maintain the land we farm to ensure we have a sustainable source of good quality feed and grass for our cattle now and in the future. We embrace modern techniques of precision soil sampling and land mapping in conjunction with GPS technology on our agricultural machinery to ensure use of fertilisers and chemicals is kept to a minimum.

Biomass

In 2014 we started our biomass fuel operation, processing wood chips for sale.
